Black Velvet

I recently splurged on a black velvet jacket for winter. I've always loved black velvet but the new jacket has triggered an obsession. So I turned my attention to black velvet cake.

It seems to be interpreted as a Halloween cake, but it's just so beautiful and rich looking that I don't think it should be limited to one holiday.

Very Red Cupcakes

I've been experimenting with red velvet recipes.....

..... and I discovered why it's important to add a bit of cocoa

but not too much!

That brings me to the type of food coloring to use.

I've tried crimson red (the Moyers one), gel

and FINALLY powdered colors.

Powdered is undoubtedly the best

(in my opinion).

I'll share the recipe with you once I have perfected it.

Weekend Madness

I had a super BUSY weekend, including a whole lot of birthday cakes :)
