Rainbow Cake

I love the idea of cake in jars and was so in love with the rainbow cake on The Family Kitchen that I mixed up a batch of my own. My brother-in-law Kyle took them to work for his birthday. It's amazing what the colors do to one's imagination because apparently they tasted like ice-cream (they were plain vanilla with food coloring).

I love how the colors stained the cupcake papers and created a tie-dye sort of effect

I put a few aside and my cousins and I sat around drinking coffee (I drank the pot of coffee) and eating cake all night. I would include a picture but the kitchen was still a huge mess!

Assemble the Minions

I can't believe it's that time of the year again! Nicki, my favorite Mommy Blogger's little angle turned two. I was thrilled to be asked to do the cake and cupcakes again this year. (See last year's Mod Monkey cake here).

The theme this year was Despicable Me.... one of my favorites!

Blog of the Week

Although we don't celebrate Halloween in South Africa, I am really getting into it this year. Not quite as much as Carrie Mae, whose blog Creepy Cupcakes, has been a huge source of inspiration and ideas for me.

Carrie Mae loves Halloween so much that she provides food and decor ideas throughout the year. 

I'm busy with a few Halloween items myself that I'll share with you next week..... Can't spoil any suprises ;-)
