Thread Cakes

A couple of weeks ago I stumbled upon this fantastic competition. I browsed through the pictures and ummmmmmed and aaaaaahed before I decided to go for it...... What could I lose? And it would be fun anyway.

Then I did nothing about!

When the baking bug bites, it bites hard. I had been sitting at the office all day dying to get stuck in in the kitchen. Needless to say, I got home and, driven by the baking frenzy I was in, decided on a theme (based on a Threadless t-shirt) and baked the cake in one night.

Paulie was a bit curious about what I was doing!

I made a basic vanilla cake and smothered it in caramel treat. The icing is a basic rolled fondant (which took forever to mix and get all the colours right).

By the time I was done, 5 hours later, everyone else in the house had gone to bed, so I had to wait until the next evening before we could actually sample the cake. It was pretty good (if I may say so myself).

Even little Paulie enjoyed the cake.

The cake ended up being so big that some of the neighbours got a piece too. Aside from saying how great the cake looked, almost everyone commented that they loved how the caramel and the underside of the fondant had gone a little marshmallowy and gooey.

In short, I had a GREAT time baking and eating this cake, and YES! I'll definitely enter again so that I have an excuse to create something this fun again.

You can view my entry at http://www.threadcakes.com/entries/view/448

Let me know if you've also entered, I'd love to see your wonderful creations!

Happy Baking!
