Those of you that follow me on Facebook will have seen me raving about my lunch today. When Himself is home we tend to eat badly. Since Baby Cupcake started eating solids we agreed that we need to be a good example to her.
I recently came across EATrite foods and immediately ordered meals. Delivery was 7 days after ordering and the guys at Candicehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14473022220256109563noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4086037023306695127.post-26578537969462981062013-03-07T10:00:00.000+02:002013-03-07T10:00:14.592+02:00Baking BasicsI'm sure you have read a recipe and thought to yourself, "but that's not important" or "I don't have time to...". I have! I've done some research over the years and thought I'd save you the time.
This may be totally boring, but let's talk about eggs.
One of the basics is using room temperature eggs. Why would that make a difference? Well, when baking cakes and cupcakes it does matter! So much so that I pay the exorbitant price and then divide it up into little portions that I keep in the fridge and savor one tiny piece at a time (which takes a lot of discipline!).
At the Taste of Christmas last year I noticed that there are quite a few people out their making raw and organic chocolate. All charge insane prices!Candicehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14473022220256109563noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4086037023306695127.post-42565725570929728072013-02-14T10:17:00.000+02:002013-02-14T10:17:00.754+02:00Valentines Day
Share a smile. Fill the world with cheer. Spread Valentine spirit far and near.
Happy Valentines day all! To celebrate I made these little chocolate and ganache treats. They are the perfect comfort food since I am feeling sorry for myself (Himself is out of the country for work).
Gananche is super simple yet really impressive.
All you need is 500g good quality chocolate and 250ml Candicehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14473022220256109563noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4086037023306695127.post-22522513452717585072013-02-05T10:00:00.000+02:002013-02-05T10:00:14.840+02:00Black VelvetI recently splurged on a black velvet jacket for winter. I've always loved black velvet but the new jacket has triggered an obsession. So I turned my attention to black velvet cake.

Fortunately Pillsbury makes this super easy by telling you how on the side of the box.
Towards the end of last year I received a stunning box of goodies from Pillsbury. And I had a very serious craving for ice-cream. By Friday I was desperate. The trouble is, I'm not a huge fan of ice-cream (or anything milky / creamy). After browsing the internet for inspiration I decided to just kinda wing-it and came up with a variation of a Hawaiian Crush flavour ice-cream.

I've always been a huge fan of online shopping, particularly since Baby Cupcake joined our family. TAKEALOT.com is a favorite shopping site of mine.
I was really excited when they recently contacted me letting me know about the launch of their Home &Kitchen category. They were kind enough to include a voucher that I couldn't wait to use.

I had a beautiful baby girl earlier this month.
I was looking around me and was struck by
just how many cupcake themed gifts
Baby Cupcake was spoilt with.
Aren't the tiny hands and feet

Thank you to all our

This time of the year I am tormented by the
YUMMY
pumpkin recipes on Pinterest etc.
Unfortunately almost all of them call for
canned pumpkin and
pumpkin pie spice
neither of which are available in South Africa
I did a little research and found the following
two alternatives....
Pumpkin Pie Spice
4 Tbsp ground cinnamon
4 tsp ground ginger
4 tsp ground nutmeg

My cousin Matthew turned 17 earlier this year
What kinda cake does one make for a 17 year old guy
that isn't cheesy?
I reckon I'm a bit of a smartie pants (ok, that was cheesy!)
and hit the nail on the head (and clichéd)
With a cup of really good coffee
(decaf for preggers over here) it was pretty yummy :)
AND it looked fantastic!
Happy baking!

YAY! It's that time of the year again!
Taste of Joburg is one of the events I really look forward to every year.
This amazing food festival brings together some of Joburg's best restaurants, award winning wineries and premium drink brands.
My favorite is
the Taste pop-up restaurant where a handful of guest chefs will pop in to cook their signature dishes during a tasting session.

One of the questions I've been asked most often during my pregnancy is
"What is your craving?"
And I can say, without hesitation
PEANUT BUTTER
And so the OTT peanut butter packed, power cupcake came into being....
plain vanilla cake batter and buttercream with lots of peanut butter added
I so badly wanted to top it off with a gorgeous piece of golden peanut brittle
but,

Remember the peach cupcakes I made
at the beginning of Spring?
They were such a huge hit...
.......... so I made them again
I added more peach for lots more yumminess
And skipped the sugar in the cream
(I've had far too much sugar lately)
This one is definitely a winner :)
Happy baking!

I've been experimenting with red velvet recipes.....
..... and I discovered why it's important to add a bit of cocoa
but not too much!
Very red red velvet
That brings me to the type of food coloring to use.
I've tried crimson red (the Moyers one), gel
and FINALLY powdered colors.
Powdered is undoubtedly the best
(in my opinion).
I'll share the recipe with you once I have Candicehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14473022220256109563noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4086037023306695127.post-5931228292815293322012-01-25T05:00:00.000+02:002012-01-25T05:00:01.190+02:00Weekend Madness
I had a super BUSY weekend, including a whole lot of birthday cakes :)
Chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling
Red velvet with cream cheese filling
Some of the highlights of my weekend:
1. My dad's birthday celebratory lunch
2. Delivering two gorgeous cakes.... and nothing went wrong!
3. Cousin Margo arriving from SLC
4. The birth of my first little niece :)
